Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia University baseball team posted a season high 17 hits and 14 runs in game one and didn't let up in game two, putting up another 12 runs and 15 hits, all leading to a two game sweep on Lincoln University.
GAME ONE
The offense didn't take long to get going, plating five runs in the first and continuing to add at least one run every inning there after.
Steven Wells continued to stay hot, getting on base in all four of his at bats. Two plate appearances ended with hits, one a 6th inning 2-run home-run, his 5th of the year. Along with Wells, Dan Klusman had a solid day at the plate, knocking in 2 RBIs on 2 hits.
Not to be overshadowed by the offense, Fernando Garza threw a complete game, two hit gem, allowing only one un-earned run and striking out five.
GAME TWO
Lincoln was the first to get on the board in game two, as Dumarius Gooch knocked a one out solo home-run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Rams responded quickly in the bottom of the inning with a Steven Wells RBI single, but the back and forth didn't stop there. After both teams plated another run in the second, the first zero was posted in the top of the third, leading way to a two run bottom of the third.
Started Jon Gottschall cruised through the top of the 4th, but ran into a bit of trouble in the 5th. After loading the bases to start the inning, he rolled up a ground ball for the first out and struck out the next batter for the second, but two consecutive two out singles gave the Lions a two run lead.
The offense yet again responded with a bang, posting an 8-run bottom of the 5th. Steven Wells started the scoring with a 2-run double off the right field wall while Brandon Quaranta and Dave McTaggart both hit home-runs.
Freshman Andres Valbuena and AJ Shapiro both posted scoreless innings to finish the game.
The Rams take on the Lions again tomorrow at Lincoln in a double-header starting at 1PM.
