Goldberg's Complete Game, Quaranta's Program Record Homer Highlight Sweep of Bloomfield

PHILADELPHIA – The Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) baseball team (18-27, 15-16 CACC) completed a doubleheader sweep of the Bloomfield Bears (12-25-1, 7-19 CACC) on Sunday afternoon in a conference doubleheader from Alumni Field on campus.

Jefferson won game one 4-0 behind senior Jake Goldberg's complete game while the Rams came from behind in game two to pull out the 6-3 win that was highlighted by senior Brandon Quaranta's program record 38th career home run.

SUNDAY GAME ONE – W, 4-0
Senior Jake Goldberg pitched a complete game shutout in the Rams' 4-0 victory in game one. Goldberg struck out 11 Bears across his 9.0-inning outing while only allowing four hits.

Timothy Brodhag singled in Richard Joa in the first to give the Rams the early 1-0 edge. A single to left off the bat of Brandon Quaranta scored Joa again in the third, 2-0. In the fifth, Chase Fike tripled down the right field line to score Austin Torres, 3-0. The Rams' fourth run came in the eighth inning when Andres Valbuena put down a safety squeeze to bring home Fike.

SUNDAY GAME TWO – W, 6-3
Bloomfield put up two early runs in the second and third to take a 2-0 lead. Matt McGee hit an RBI groundout in the fourth to score Nick Wheeler. A sac fly in the fifth extended the Bloomfield advantage to 3-1.

Jefferson was able to tie the game in the fifth behind Timothy Brodhag's RBI double before he scored on a wild pitch to even the score, 3-3.

A sac bunt by McGee in the seventh put the Rams ahead 4-3. In the eighth, Quaranta hit a two-run home run to left field, giving Jefferson a 6-3 edge. It came as his 38th career home run to break the program's all-time home run mark.

Daniel Sabath started and lasted 4.2 innings allowing three earned runs before Patrick Hohlfeld (W, 3-5) tossed the final 4.1 relief innings with three strikeouts. Hohlfeld did not allow a run and only surrendered three hits.

Jefferson Baseball closes out the 2018 regular season with a single, seven-inning contest at home against Goldey-Beacom on Monday, April 30 at noon from Alumni Field. The winner between the Rams and the Lightning advances to the conference postseason tournament.
