BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team scored early and often to take two games from host Concordia (N.Y.) in a CACC doubleheader on Saturday. The Rams have won seven in a row and are now 13-5 on the season.
GAME ONE – W, 8-0 (6 inn.)
Jefferson struck for three runs in the opening inning.
Victoria Juckniewitz led off the game with a walk and scored on an RBI double by
Emily Akelaitis. Akelaitis and
Sam Gomez both scored on an error to make it 3-0. In the third, Akelaitis smacked another double and scored on a miscue to increase the Rams' lead to four.
Akelaitis was also effective in the pitching circle, retiring 12 straight Concordia batters from the first into the fifth innings. Jefferson tacked on two more in the top of the fifth. Gomez and
Winnai Hoyt hit back-to-back RBI singles. The Rams' final two runs came in the sixth. Juckniewitz drove in a run with a double to left center and she scored on a base hit by Akelaitis. Jefferson was able to end the contest after six innings due to the eight-run rule.

GAME TWO – W, 10-5
The Rams opened the scoring again, once more in the first inning.
Victoria Juckniewitz led off the contest with a single up the middle and later scored on
Sam Gomez's base hit.
The Clippers scored their first runs of the day and took the lead with a two-run homer in the second. However, Jefferson responded with four runs in the third.
Emily Akelaitis knocked in a run with a single,
Emily Kuberski stole home,
Winnai Hoyt singled in a run, and
Julia Heine recorded a sacrifice fly.
Concordia cut the deficit to one (5-4) in the bottom of the third with a two-run double. The Rams again hit back with a pair of runs in the fourth. Gomez singled in
Sage Bolonski and Juckniewitz came home on an error. Jefferson made it 8-4 in the fifth when Juckniewitz plated
Cayla Kalani on a groundout.
In the sixth, Gomez and Hoyt each scored an error to make the score 10-4. The Clippers registered a solo home run in the bottom of the frame and the score was 10-5. The Rams sat down Concordia in order in the seventh to seal the win.
