PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University men's tennis team clinched the final spot in the CACC Tournament with a 4-3 victory over visiting Dominican (N.Y.) on Monday afternoon. The Rams are 5-6 on the year with a 3-4 conference record.
Jefferson swept the doubles matches to earn the first point of the day.
Hannibal Borg put the Rams ahead 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at first singles. The Chargers evened the score at two with wins at second and fourth singles.
Joao Pedro Molina Marcal put Jefferson in front again with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at the sixth position but Dominican brought it to a 3-3 deadlock shortly thereafter with a victory at fifth singles.
That brought the match and the final CACC playoff berth down to the third singles position.
Brennan Connelly took the opening set for the Rams, 6-1, but dropped the second, 3-6, to bring it to a decisive third set. Connelly bounced back and earned a 6-2 win to clinch the match and the CACC Tournament spot for Jefferson. It is the first conference tournament appearance for the Rams since 2018.
