Softball Tops Chestnut Hill Twice

PHILADELPHIA - The Thomas Jefferson University softball team won both games of a conference doubleheader versus Chestnut Hill on Thursday. The Rams upped their record to 16-8.
 
GAME ONE - W, 14-3 (5 inn.)
Jefferson scored in every one of its at-bats, beginning with a pair of runs in the first inning. Victoria Juckniewitz led off with her first collegiate home run and Emily Akelaitis later recorded an RBI double.
 
The Rams plated four runs in the second. Juckniewitz knocked in another run with a base hit, Cayla Kalani scored on an error, and Akelaitis blasted a two-run homer.
 
After the Griffins scored twice in the third on a double steal and an RBI single, Jefferson responded with six in the bottom half. Kalani hit an RBI single, Ali Murphy drove in two with a double, Akelaitis doubled in a run, and Sam Gomez smacked a two-run homer.
 
Akelaitis added two more to her RBI total with a single in the fourth to make it 14-2. Chestnut Hill scored another run in the fifth on an error but the contest ended early due to the eight-run rule.

The Griffins broke the ice with two runs in the opening frame on an RBI single and a fielder's choice. The Rams evened the score in the second. Ellie Egher sent a solo shot over the fence in left and Julia Heine hit an RBI single up the middle.
 
After Chestnut Hill regained the lead with a solo homer in the third, Jefferson took over for good in the bottom of the inning. Heine singled in another run, Samantha Hurtado knocked in a run with a base hit, Heine scored on an error, and Katelyn Stys registered an RBI double to make the score 6-3.
 
The Rams tacked on four more runs in the fourth. Akelaitis singled to plate Ali Murphy. Cayla Kalani scored on a wild pitch, and Heine smacked a two-run double. Heine then ended the game in the sixth with a "walk-off" double to right center to bring home Emily Kuberski.
