SPARKILL, N.Y. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (17-16) fell at Saint Thomas Aquinas, 11-7, in non-conference action on Tuesday.
GAMEPLAY
The Rams took a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Justin Espinal doubled in a run and
Lucas DeStefano plated two with a single. The Spartans got within one (3-2) with a two-run homer in the third.
Jefferson increased its advantage to two (4-2) in the fifth via an RBI single by
Efrain Santiago.
Vince Barone recorded an RBI base hit in the top of the seventh to make it 5-2. STAC then stunned the Rams with a six-run seventh. The Spartans posted a two-run single, a walk and a hit by pitch with the bases loaded, and a sacrifice fly while also scoring on a wild pitch.
Saint Thomas Aquinas took an 8-5 lead into the eighth but Jefferson closed the gap to one (8-7) on a fielder's choice and an error. However, the Spartans answered with three insurance runs in the bottom half. They walked with the bases loaded and knocked in two with a single. The Rams managed a baserunner in the ninth but could not get another run across.
