Softball Ends Regular Season With Split Versus Holy Family, Awaits Playoff Fate

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (12-24, 11-13 CACC) ended the regular season on Saturday with a doubleheader split versus city rival Holy Family.

The Rams will need help in the final doubleheader on the conference schedule to secure a spot in the CACC Tournament. Felician visits Caldwell on Sunday, May 1 at 12 p.m. and Jefferson can only advance to the postseason if Felician wins both contests.

GAME ONE – L, 2-0
It was a pitcher's duel in the opener as the game remained scoreless through six innings. Gianna DeLorenzo retired the first 11 Tigers hitters she faced and allowed just one baserunner through five. Holy Family managed to load the bases in the sixth but DeLorenzo recorded a strikeout to end the threat.

Jefferson had opportunities offensively but left five runners on base over the first six frames. In the top of the seventh, the Tigers put a runner on with two outs then blasted a two-run homer to break the tie and take the lead. HFU then retired the Rams in order in the bottom half to claim the win.

GAME TWO – W, 6-1
The two squads looked to be playing another tight one in the nightcap with no score through three frames. The Rams ended their scoring drought with a two-run double by Julia Heine in the fourth to take a 2-0 lead.

Holy Family got a run back in the fifth on a solo homer but Jefferson answered with three runs in its half of the inning. Ali Murphy came home on an error and Emily Kuberski plated two with a base hit up the middle.

Sam Gomez recorded an RBI single in the sixth to make it 6-1 in favor of the Rams. Gianna DeLorenzo was masterful yet again for Jefferson, tossing a complete game and conceding just three hits. She did not allow a hit until the lead-off home run in the fifth.
