SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Thomas Jefferson University men's tennis team (14-5) had its season come to an end with a 4-0 loss to Saint Thomas Aquinas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday.
The Rams were the fourth seed in the East Region while the Spartans were seeded fifth. STAC advances to take on the region's top seed, Le Moyne, on Tuesday, May 10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans opened with a 6-2 victory at third doubles before claiming the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the top flight. The Rams got off to a rough start in singles play, dropping the first set in four of the six matches. A 6-0, 6-0 triumph at fourth singles gave STAC a 2-0 advantage in the match. The Spartans were able to pick up a pair of straight-set wins within seconds of each other at third and sixth singles to clinch the decision.
