PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (0-2) suffered a 9-7 loss to Bloomsburg (1-3) in the Rams' home opener at Alumni Field on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Huskies posted the first run of the day with an RBI double in the third. Jefferson answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning as
Dylan Rees swiped home on a double steal and
Josh Lopez plated
Alex Gonzalez with a sacrifice fly. In the fourth,
Jay Kalieta drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Rams ahead 3-1.
Bloomsburg rallied for three runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead. The Huskies recorded a bases-loaded walk and two runs came home on a pair of wild pitches. Both teams pushed a run across in the seventh. Bloomsburg registered an RBI single and
Chris McLean knocked in
Ryan Coyle with a base hit for the Rams.
The Huskies opened up a five-run advantage (9-4) with four runs in the eighth via an RBI single and a three-run, bases-clearing triple, both with two outs. Jefferson got three runs back in the bottom of the frame. Coyle drove in a couple with a single and Lopez brought home Kalieta with a base knock to left. However, the Rams could not complete the comeback attempt as they went down in order in the ninth.
