Baseball Edged By Chestnut Hill

NORTH WALES, Pa. – Chestnut Hill (12-18, 6-5 CACC) took the lead with a five-run fourth inning and the Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (16-14, 5-4 CACC) fell to the Griffins, 7-6, in a conference game on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams opened the scoring with three runs in the second. The first four hitters all recorded hits, including Matt Vita with an RBI double and Justin Espinal with a two-run single. Chestnut Hill got a run back in the bottom of the inning, scoring on a two-out error.

After both squads went down in order in the third, the Rams upped the advantage to 5-1 in the fourth as Vita and Alex Gonzalez came home on a pair of Griffins' miscues. However, Chestnut Hill bounced back and went off for five runs in the bottom of the frame for a 6-5 lead. The Griffins registered just two hits during the rally, benefitting from four walks and an error. Three of the runs were unearned.

Jefferson was unable to respond as Chestnut Hill added another run in the sixth with an RBI single. The Rams tried to rally in the ninth, loading the bases. A groundout brought a run home and cut the deficit to one but a fly out ended the game.
