Softball Recovers To Take Game Two at Holy Family

BENSALEM, Pa. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (11-17, 5-9 CACC) came back to win the second game of a CACC doubleheader at Holy Family (10-22, 8-6 CACC) on Wednesday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE – L, 3-1
The Tigers took an early lead, hitting a two-out RBI double in the first inning. They added another two-out run in the third, this time with an RBI single, to up the advantage to two. A leadoff homer in the fifth made it a 3-0 Holy Family lead.
 
Meanwhile, the Rams recorded five hits over the first five innings but stranded five as they were held off the board while the Tigers built their cushion. Jefferson's lone run came home on a groundout in the sixth. The Rams led off the seventh with a single but the next three batters resulted in outs as Holy Family closed out the win.

GAME TWO – W, 4-2
Jefferson got off to a better start in the nightcap, taking a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on Emily Akelaitis's two-out RBI single. The Rams upped the advantage to three in the third after a two-run single by Sam Gomez with two away. Julia Heine made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
 
In the pitching circle, Angelina Sherba held the Tigers off the board for the first five innings, conceding just two hits. Holy Family was able to steal a run in the sixth, executing a double steal to cut the deficit to three (4-1). The Tigers threatened in the seventh, putting runners at second and third with one out. Gianna DeLorenzo came in and conceded a sacrifice fly before inducing a pop-up to earn the save.
