PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (13-19, 7-11 CACC) got the bats going and swept Chestnut Hill (6-33, 3-13 CACC) in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday.
GAME ONE – W, 9-1 (5 inn.)
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single but the Rams responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame. Two runs came home on a pair of groundouts while
Julia Heine and
Emily Kuberski hit an RBI triple and single respectively.
The teams combined for six baserunners from the second through fourth innings but were unable to push a run across. Chestnut Hill went down in order in the fifth and then Jefferson went off for five runs to end the game due to the eight-run rule.
Cayla Kalani had an RBI bunt single, Kuberski singled in a pair and scored on an error, and
Winnai Hoyt posted a game-ending base hit up the middle.

The Rams started strong, going ahead 4-0 in the opening frame. The first five hitters of the inning reached base.
Emily Akelaitis mashed a three-run homer to left and
Sam Gomez scored on a fielder's choice. Jefferson made it 6-0 in the third on
Ali Murphy's two-out, two-run single.
Both teams pushed a run across in the fourth. Chestnut Hill hit an RBI single and
Winnai Hoyt clobbered a lead-off home run for Jefferson. Two RBI singles in the fifth got the Griffins within four (7-3) but the Rams got them back with another RBI base hit by Murphy and a sacrifice fly by
Bridget Shields. Jefferson's final run came on a
Victoria Juckniewitz single in the sixth.
