HOCKESSIN, Del. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (26-22) had its season come to an end on Friday in the first round of the CACC Tournament, dropping the best-of-three series at Goldey-Beacom (33-16), 2-0.
GAME ONE – L, 9-5
The Lightning struck first in the second, launching a two-run homer to take a 2-0 lead. The Rams came back with four runs in the third to go in front.
Chris McLean hit an RBI double and later scored on an error,
Josh Lopez came home on a fielder's choice, and
Gabe Silva also scored on an error.
Goldey-Beacom regained the advantage in the bottom of the third, recording a sacrifice fly and a three-run home run to go ahead 6-4. The Lightning added another run on an error to increase the margin to three. Goldey-Beacom stifled the Jefferson offense from that point, retiring the Rams in order in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.
The Lightning tacked on an insurance run in the seventh with a two-out RBI double. Jefferson scored once more with a sac fly in the eighth but left the bases loaded, still trailing by four (9-5). The Rams loaded them up again in the ninth but a groundout ended the contest.

GAME TWO – L, 5-3
Marquise Wood opened the scoring in game two, crushing a lead-off homer in the third to put Jefferson in front 1-0. Goldey-Beacom evened the score on an error in the bottom of the third. The Lightning took a 2-1 lead in the fourth on an RBI groundout.
Wood smashed his second lead-off dinger of the contest in the fifth to tie it up at two. After a groundout,
Chris McLean went yard to give the Rams a 3-2 advantage. However, Goldey-Beacom made it even once again with a sac fly in the bottom of the frame.
The Lightning took the upper hand for good with two runs in the sixth, one on an RBI double and another on a sacrifice bunt. Jefferson put one runner on base in each of the last three innings but could not manufacture any more runs.
