Baseball Bows Out of CACC Tournament

HOCKESSIN, Del. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (26-22) had its season come to an end on Friday in the first round of the CACC Tournament, dropping the best-of-three series at Goldey-Beacom (33-16), 2-0.

GAME ONE – L, 9-5
The Lightning struck first in the second, launching a two-run homer to take a 2-0 lead. The Rams came back with four runs in the third to go in front. Chris McLean hit an RBI double and later scored on an error, Josh Lopez came home on a fielder's choice, and Gabe Silva also scored on an error.

Goldey-Beacom regained the advantage in the bottom of the third, recording a sacrifice fly and a three-run home run to go ahead 6-4. The Lightning added another run on an error to increase the margin to three. Goldey-Beacom stifled the Jefferson offense from that point, retiring the Rams in order in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

The Lightning tacked on an insurance run in the seventh with a two-out RBI double. Jefferson scored once more with a sac fly in the eighth but left the bases loaded, still trailing by four (9-5). The Rams loaded them up again in the ninth but a groundout ended the contest.
