Softball Splits First Day at Fast Pitch Spring Classic
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (2-4) began their spring break down at Myrtle Beach, competing in the Fast Pitch Spring Classic. They began the day dropping the first match to Division III opponent Lycoming College (2-0) 9-0 in five innings. The Rams then edged out West Virginia State College (7-8) with a 4-3 score.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME TWO: W, 4-3 vs WEST VIRGINIA STATE
The Rams started on the scoring attack with two first inning runs.
Sabrina Pastino double to center field brought
Rozalee Negron to home for a score.
Bridget Shields answered at the next at bat with a bunt, allowing
Remy Smith to Homeplate and having a 2-0 lead for Jefferson.
The Yellow Jackets evened it out with a run in the third and fourth inning.
Gianna DeLorenzo and the Rams' field players kept them in the game, getting the first three batters out in the fifth and sixth inning. The seventh saw Shields drive a single down the right field line, giving Pastino and Smith time to add two runs for Jefferson as they reclaimed the lead 4-2.
West Virginia State was not out yet, on base from a triple to center field. A sacrifice fly gave the Yellow Jackets a run, only trailing by one point. The Rams eventually held on, getting two flied outs to end the day with a 4-3 win.

Jefferson played their first match against Division III Lycoming. The Warriors put up five runs in the second inning, benefiting from three Ram errors. Lycoming got Jefferson out of the second and put up four more runs in the top of the third inning.
The Rams had a shot to get some runs in the bottom of the fourth, with
Annalise Pudimott getting to third base by a fielding error. The Warriors got the ground out that concluded Jefferson's scoring attempt. Jefferson had one batter make it to base, a single to left field, as Lycoming had two straight strikeouts to defeat Jefferson 9-0.
