Baseball Delivers Another 20+ Run Performance at Lincoln
 
LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, PA – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (7-4) completed their series with the Lions as they traveled to on the road this time. The Rams put 29 runs in the game, with 26 coming in three innings, as Jefferson defeated Lincoln University (4-7) 29-2 in Sunday action.
 
WHAT HAPPENED
Gabe Silva began the day with three straight strikes, getting out the starting order of batters for Lincoln. That start would pace Silva to have 11 strikeouts in the game for the victory. Jefferson would begin their scoring in the second with a Justin Egner double bringing Kyle Kozlowski to Homeplate and the first of many runs on the day for the Rams.
 
At the top of the fourth, Alex Gonzalez hit a flyout to centerfield. After an error on the throw to shortstop, Joshua Lopez took advantage as he made it to home for the second score on the day. Silva kept his pace going on the day, only seeing four batters at most during his six innings pitched.
 
The game kept quiet through the next inning, but Jefferson blew the doors open at the top of the sixth. Egner and Joshu. Lopez started it off with back-to-back homeruns for the Rams. Marquise Wood delivered a double to center field that allowed Al. Gonzalez and Jordan Tiburcio to pad on two more runs.
 
Wood then stole third base while Justin Espinal walked to first. Espinal followed his teammate with his own steal, putting him at second with Wood on third. Josh Lopez got on base with a hit by pitch, loading the bases for the Rams. Egner returned to bat, adding more runs with a single to left field as Wood and Espinal scored for an 8-0 lead. Joshu. Lopez repeated his first at bat in the inning, hitting another homerun to get the game at 11-0 for Jefferson.
 
Looking to outdo themselves, the Rams put up 10 runs in the seventh inning. Al. Gonzalez double got him on base. Espinal hit a single to left field, with the left fielder making an error that got him to second and third base, giving time for Gonzalez to make it home for another score. Chris McLean made contact with the ball, hitting a double to bring Espinal home. Jo. Lopez two-run homerun to left center had the game at 15-0 with five batters appearing in the inning.
 
Kozlowski got on base with a double to center field, advancing to third on a wild pitch. Egner's sacrifice flyout to center field put another run on the board for the Rams. Joshu. Lopez gave another double for Jefferson in the inning, having four of five so far in the inning. Tiburico hit by pitch placed him on first, allowing Matt Vita to deliver the fifth double of the inning and add two more runs for Jefferson. A Lion's error by the right fielder let Wood get to third base and Vita to score. A wild pitch gave Wood the chance to score and put up the 20th run of the game for Jefferson, their second consecutive 20+ run match. Kyle Kozlowski concluded the scoring barrage of the seventh with a single to first base for Espinal to score and have it at 21-0 heading into the eighth.
 
The eighth did not disappoint with the Rams' batters, putting seven runs on the board. Vita's double up the middle got Nick Squazzo home while Espinal's sacrifice flyout to center field put Nico Quiroz on home plate for a 23-0 score. Diego Santiago single got Vita to home and Kozlowski three-run homerun put it at 27-0. Squazzo returned to the plate, hitting a single that gave Isaac Sherrill time to put another run up, making it 28-0 in the top of the eighth.
 
Lincoln scored their first two runs of the day in the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing 28-2. The Rams' ended their day at the top of the ninth, with Sherrill having a sacrifice flyout to left field as Espinal ran to home for his fourth run on the day. The Lions put up a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Jefferson put up a large enough lead as they took a 29-3 win over Lincoln.

Jefferson will now look to their second two day doubleheader this season at Alumni Field. The Rams will host Franklin Pierce University on Saturday and Sunday, with the first game of both doubleheaders beginning at 11 a.m.
