Rams Score Four Runs in Sixth to Take CACC South Matchup over Goldey-Beacom
HOCKESSIN, DE. – The Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (10-6, 1-0) had their first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup with South division opponent Goldey-Beacom College (14-9, 0-1). With the game tied at 1-1 in the sixth, the Rams had a double and homerun that brought four runs for Jefferson as they held onto a 5-3 win over the Lightning in conference play.
WHAT HAPPENED
The game was even for the first two innings before a fielding error on a
Chris McLean hit got
Gabe Silva to homeplate for the Rams 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Goldey-Beacom responded with a homerun in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
After a quick fifth inning, Jefferson came to life in the top of the sixth.
Joshua Lopez hit a double to the right field line that brought
Jay Kalieta and McLean to home as the Rams retook the lead 3-1. The next at bat gave them two more runs with
Marquise Wood hitting a two-run homerun to left center that made it 5-1 after six innings.
The Lightning cut the Rams lead to two as they scored runs on a double and single in the seventh, getting the game to 5-3. Heading into the ninth with two outs while the tying run on first and winning run at the plate, a unassisted out by third base concluded the game for Jefferson, securing the first of three games between the Rams and Lightning in a 5-3 victory.
