Softball Suffers Doubleheader Defeat to Goldey-Beacom
WILMINGTON, DE. - Thomas Jefferson University softball team (10-9, 4-4) competed in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Wednesday, where the Rams fell to Goldey-Beacom College (19-21, 9-3) in the doubleheader. Jefferson had a close first game, falling 1-0 to the Lightning. The second game saw Goldey-Beacom beat the Rams 9-1 in five innings.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: L, 1-0
The first game was a tight matchup between the Lightning and Rams. Only four batters appeared at the top of the first inning. After that, three batters were at the plate for both teams throughout the second, third, and top of the fourth inning. Goldey-Beacom was able to get a runner on second and third, but stopped by the Rams to keep the match scoreless.
The Lightning eventually broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth, with a stolen base to third and an error throw gave Goldey-Beacom the first run on the day. Jefferson allowed a walk then proceeded to get the next three batters out to attempt to earn a run in the top of the seventh inning. Goldey-Beacom got all three batters out early, winning the first match 1-0. The Rams only had one hit in the game while giving up four during the seven innings.

Goldey-Beacom began to score early, getting three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Rams were able to get a run in as a sacrifice fly from MacKenzie Ward allowed Sabrina Pastino to make to homeplate, cutting the Lightning lead to two runs.
Goldey-Beacom went to get two runs in the third and three in the fourth inning to make it 8-1. Jefferson had a scoring opportunity in the top of the fourth with Bridget Shields on third and Pastino on second base, but three straight outs halted the Rams attempt. The Lightning ended the game with a Rams' throwing error that got the final run in, concluding the game in five innings with Goldey-Beacom winning 9-1.
