Softball Drops Close First Game to Tigers; Falls in CACC Doubleheader Against Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA – The Thomas Jefferson University softball team (10-13, 4-8) had a 4-3 lead in the first game against the Tigers, but Holy Family (11-26, 8-8) put up four runs in the top of the seventh to steal game one against the Rams. Jefferson was not able to hold the Tigers in game two, as the Rams fell 14-1 to Holy Family in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition on Sunday afternoon.

WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: L, 7-4

Holy Family went up early with two runs in the top of the first inning off a sacrifice fly and a single to get a 2-0 lead. The Rams responded with two runs of their own as Ellie Egher hit a sacrifice fly to left field for Remy Smith to score. Bridget Shields made it to first base on a fielder's choice, but no Tiger was able to get any Ram out with Claudia Alldred making it to homeplate safely and evening the contest out at 2-2.

Rozalee Negron got the lead for Jefferson in the second inning with a triple to right center for Smith to add another score on the board and go ahead 3-2 over Holy Family. Gianna DeLorenzo, who achieved 250 career strikeouts against Felician, added two more in the third and fourth inning, not allowing a run for the Tigers.

Holy Family eventually tied it back up with a single to left field made it 3-3. Not allowing the Tigers to score in the top of the fifth, Jefferson capitalized on a throwing error by Holy Family giving Cayla Kalani a chance to make it to homeplate and get the Rams the 4-3 advantage heading into the seventh inning. The Tigers went onto put four runs in the seventh, getting a single to tie the game and a three-run homerun for the 7-4 lead. After getting the bases loaded with the game-winning run at bat, a fly out to right field ended the Rams comeback and finished game one with a 7-4 defeat.
