Baseball Drops Heartbreaker to Post in CACC Title Game
WATERBURY, Conn. - Thomas Jefferson University baseball team (32-15) were in a 3-3 tie in the ninth inning, but the Eagles got a hit that drove a run home and held onto the lead as the Rams fell 4-3 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship game to Post University (28-19) in Saturday afternoon action.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Rams got off to a hot start with a two-run double by Joshua Lopez in the bottom of the first to get Jefferson on the board early. After a scoreless second inning, Chris McLean double down the left line put another score for the Rams as the game was 3-0 after three innings. Post made an immediate response, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game up at 3-3.
The next four innings showcased the defensive battle a title game delivers as neither team allowed more than four batters from the bottom of the fourth to the eighth inning. Jack Martineau and Albert Bobadilla produced top pitching during that stretch for the Eagles and Rams. The ninth gave Post the lead as a single down the left line brought a run in and put the Eagles ahead 4-3. The Rams made one last attempt as they had the potential tying run on third and winning run on second, but a ground out to the pitcher concluded the CACC Championship weekend with Post securing the 4-3 victory.
