Horvath Becomes Baseball All-Time Winningest Coach in Program History
PHILADELPHIA – After a walkoff grand slam victory over West Virginia State University, Thomas Jefferson University baseball head coach Pat Horvath became the Rams all-time winningest coach in program history as he reached victory 258.
Horvath became the Rams head coach when it was Philadelphia University in 2011. He began to build the program up each year, eventually seeing the teams success come through the latter years as he has had four straight winning seasons and five years of 20+ wins. His team showed their best success last season under his regime, garnering the program's second 30+ win season, a CACC Championship appearance, and the school's third trip to the NCAA Tournament and first since 1990. The Rams have also won the Bill Giles Invitational Tournament in 2013. Horvath has achieved this mark in 15 seasons, passing Don Flynn in the same amount of years (2020 season was shortened due to COVID-19)
Horvath has had players succeed on the field as head coach, coaching 3 All-Americans, 16 All-Regions, 34 All-CACC players, two CACC Player of the Year, one CACC Pitcher of the Year, one CACC Rookie of the Year, and winning the CACC Coach of the Year award last season. He has seen two players make the ABCA All Region Golden Glove Team and saw his squad be the NCAA Statistical Champion in 2022 for Strikeouts Per Nine Innings. Horvath also one of his players drafted in the MLB in 2017, first time a Ram went in the draft in 18 years.
In the classroom, Horvath has saw his players achieve CACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, four CACC Top XIV/XV/XVI Award honors, 87 CACC All-Academic Team honors, 13 CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-District Team, two PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Team, one PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Pitcher of the Year, seven ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, and two CACC Team Academic Award.
