Softball Drops Double Header Against Goldey-Beacom

PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University softball dropped a double header series at home to Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday evening despite extra innings in the first game and early scoring in the second.

GAME ONE: L, 6-3
  • Jefferson took a 2–1 lead in the third inning thanks to heads-up baserunning and timely hitting.
  • An error by the Lightning opened the door for the Rams, and Riley Smith took advantage, driving in a run with her second single of the game.
  • Lightning responded in the fifth, reclaiming the lead 3–2 with a pair of runs sparked by RBIs and a fielding error. But Jefferson didn't back down.
  • In the sixth, senior Brooke Shields singled and came around to score on another Goldey-Beacom miscue, tying the game 3–3.
  • The game remained locked through the ninth inning. But in the ninth, Lightning clutched a two-run double and an RBI single gave Goldey-Beacom the cushion they needed to escape with the win.

  • Caitlyn Senkow provided a spark for Jefferson, drilling a solo home run down the left field line to cut the deficit to 3–1. It was her first home run of the season.
  • Goldey-Beacom capitalized on two Jefferson fielding errors. With runners at second and third, a double to left field brought in two unearned runs and extended Lightning's lead to 5–1.
  • With two outs, Goldey-Beacom added an insurance run with a solo homer to center, making it 6–1.
