Baseball Earns Doubleheader Victory Against Holy Family
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball continued their impressive run through the CACC with a dominant 7–1 and 4-3 victory over Holy Family at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon. In games defined by small-ball execution, defensive baserunning, and late-inning chaos, the Jefferson Rams rallied towards triumph.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 7-1
- After Holy Family snatched the first point of the game, Jefferson wasted no time responding in the bottom of the first. Julio Gomez led off with a walk and quickly came around to score on a sacrifice bunt by Javon Hernandez, followed by an RBI bunt from Justin Espinal that plated another run. The Rams kept the pressure on, scoring in four of the first five innings.
- The second inning featured heads-up baserunning from Jay Kalieta and Justin Egner, who scored on back-to-back Holy Family errors. Justin Egner later drove in a run in the fourth inning with a single to left center and eventually scored on a wild pitch.
- With the bases eventually loaded in the bottom of the fifth, Thomas Matuszewski scored on another wild pitch bringing the total to 7–1.
- Holy Family kept their offensive play, but it was not enough to put more runs on the board.

- Javon Hernandez launched a 2-run homer to left field, putting Jefferson ahead 2–1 after Holy Family scored early on two Jefferson errors.
- Holy Family tied it up 2–2 with aggressive baserunning in the second inning.
- Holy Family took back the lead 3-2 in the fourth inning when they scored on a chaotic play.
- Jefferson held the Tigers scoreless after the 4th inning.
- The seventh inning was where the final rally took place. Luis Mora was hit by a pitch to lead off. Joshua Lopez reached on a fielder's choice and Luis Mora scored the tying run on a throwing error. Javon Hernandez and Thomas Matuszewski were intentionally walked to load the bases. Alexander Angulo reached on a fielding error, allowing Joshua Lopez to cross home with the game-winning run.
