Baseball Gets Back on Track with Sweep Over Bridgeport
PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball (30-12, 22-6) took the week off and looked to get back on track as they secured the sweep over the University of Bridgeport (11-32, 9-21) in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action this Wednesday afternoon.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 4-2
- Jefferson got out to an early lead as Javon Hernandez hit a homerun to get the Rams on the board. Joshua Lopez hit a double to the left line for another score, making it 2-0 after the first inning
- Jefferson added to their lead as a Justin Egner sacrifice flyout allowed Jay Kalieta to score as the game was 3-0 and looked to be going heavily in favor of the Rams
- The Purple Knights got on the board in the third with a single, cutting the lead to 3-1
- Jefferson got back to their three-run lead as Gabe Silva hit his own sacrifice flu to left field
- The fifth and sixth inning went by with a few three batters down before Bridgeport got their second run on the day in he seventh with a single to the left field
- Jefferson held strong, not allowing another run and giving up one hit in the final two innings to take game one
- Orion Frailey takes the win as he pitched six innings, giving up five hits and one run while striking out seven batters. AJ Lefton and Aiden Barbour eached pitched at least one inning, striking out a batter apiece

- The second game did not go the Rams way as Bridgeport scored three runs in the top of the inning as the Purple Knights had a homerun with their first at-bat. The got runs from a fielding error and a runner scoring from his teammates intentional caught stealing play
- Jefferson got on the board in the bottom of the same inning with Matuszewski two-run double to left field
- The third inning saw both teams produce three errors, taking advantage of those opportunities. The Purple Knights put up three singles to get three runs for a 7-3 lead. The Rams took it back with eight runs from a Matuszewski grounded out, Lopez one-run single, two wild pitches with a throwing error, a pass ball, a fielding error, and a Hernandez single to left field to get ahead 11-7
- The Rams never stopped the attack, adding four runs in the fourth inning. Gomez's double to left field, a fielding error, an Egner single to the left side, and a Silva single up the middle
- Bridgeport did put up another run, but Jefferson responded with two more as Justin Espinal sacrifice flyout and a Luis Beato Mora homerun ended the scoring at 18-9
- Matthew Pashley takes the win with 2.2 innings pitched, allowing two hits and a run with one strikeout. Silva started the game, giving up six hits and seven runs, three earned, with three strikeouts. Will Hoffman and Cole Roschel each pitched one inning for the Rams
