No.24 Baseball Breaks School Record for Wins; Sweeps Bloomfield to End Regular Season

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. - No.24 nationally ranked Thomas Jefferson University baseball (35-13, 27-7) finish their regular season with a doubleheader against Bloomfield College of Montclair State University (0-44, 0-36) where the Rams swept the Bears in both contests in an 18-6 eight inning game one and 9-3 game two. Those victories propelled Jefferson to 35 wins, the most the program has ever achieved.

WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 18-6 (8 INNINGS)

  • First inning saw three runs by way of a Thomas Matuszewski one-run double and a Joshua Lopez two-run homerun. Gabe Silva and Javon Hernandez both hit one run singles in the second with Matuszewski nailing a two-run single to left field in the fourth as the lead went to 7-0 for the Rams

  • The Bears came back in the game in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded by way of a hit by pitch and a walk to get two runners to home. Bloomfield then hit a grand slam to tie the game at 7-6

  • Jefferson went on to score 11 runs in the next three innings with a Julio Frometa Gomez single and a wild pitch in the sixth, Matuszewski, Lopez, and Kyle Kozlowski singles alongside a Jordan Tiburcio sacrifice bunt in the seventh, and a Hernandez single as well as a Kozlowski homerun in the eighth to end the game at 18-6 in eight innings

  • Ricky Harrison gets the win, pitching three innings with four strikeouts. Will Hoffman pitched .02 when the Bears came back as he recorded a strikeout. Kris Giangreco was on the mound the rest of the way as he registered five strikes

35 WINS
After getting the second victory over the Bears, Jefferson now has reached 35 wins on the season. UP NEXT
With the Rams breaking program records once again, they prepare to capture their first ever CACC Title in school history. Jefferson makes their return to Alumni Field on Friday, May 2 in a nine-inning doubleheader as they welcome back cross-town rival Chestnut Hill College for the first round of the CACC Tournament. The first pitch will be thrown at 12 p.m.
