Hernandez, Matuszewski Named D2CCA All-Americans
MARSHALL, Minn. – Thomas Jefferson University baseball puts two more players down in the history books as
Javon Hernandez and
Thomas Matuszewski were named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-American Team, announced this afternoon. Hernandez made the First Team at shortstop while Matuszewski was placed on the Second Team as a Utility-Non Pitcher.
Hernandez had 13 homeruns, 76 runs, and .707 Slugging percentage on the season while being tied for first in the CACC and ranked highly in the nation in hits with 88. The CACC Player of the Year makes the All-East Region First Team with 19 doubles and three triples this year while starting in every game the Rams have played, with majority of his time on the field at shortstop. The Danbury, Conn. Native has taken home multiple awards, including East Region Player of the Year from the D2CCA, American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Hernandez was also named an All-American from the NCBWA on May 21.
Matuszewski is recognized with his first All-American honors as the freshman held a .438 batting average this season and sixth in doubles as he has recorded 23 on the year. The Oxford, Pa. native leads the team in hits with 89 hits this season as well as be 12th in the country in RBI's, tacking on 83 through 57 games he has played and started in. He was named the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year while making the D2CCA and NCBWA All-Region teams as well.
