Softball Drops Doubleheader to West Chester

WEST CHESTER, PA – Thomas Jefferson University softball (8-6) continued their road stretch as they took on West Chester University (8-8) on Wednesday. The Rams dropped both of their contests to the Golden Rams. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
GAME ONE: L, 9-1 (5 INNINGS) 

• Jefferson began the game strong off a MacKenzie Ward solo homerun in the top of the first inning 

• West Chester put up five runs of their own in the bottom of the second, including a three run homerun to go up 5-1 

• The Golden Rams ended their scoring barrage with a two-run double and a two-run homerun in the third inning 

• The Rams got as close as second base the rest of the way, falling in five innings 

• Delaney Alix started and pitched 1.2 innings, having a strikeout on the mound. MaryKate Armstrong went the rest of the 2.1 innings, knocking down two Golden Ram batters of her own.

• The second game went in favor of the Rams once again as Ella Wheeler hit a grand slam in the top of the second inning while Liv Stevens earned a two RBI double to have the contest 6-0 

• West Chester responded with six runs of their own in the bottom of the third and eventually taking the lead 11-6 with five runs in the fourth 

• Alyssa Bailey scored on a wild pitch to cut it down to four in the fifth inning. The Golden Rams put a run to go back up by five 

• Stevens hit another double for an RBI, but West Chester finished the day victorious 12-8 

• Lauren Bernaiche pitched 2.2 innings for Jefferson with MaryKate Armstrong coming in for the final out. Bailey Maloney and Alix finished the final three innings for the Rams
