Baseball Sweeps Bridgeport in Doubleheader
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Thomas Jefferson University baseball (6-9, 5-3) took on the University of Bridgeport (8-9, 4-4) on Saturday afternoon. The Rams made both games seven innings as they won game one 12-2 and game two 16-3.
WHAT HAPPENED
GAME ONE: W, 12-2
- Rams opened it up early as an error by the catcher allowed Luis Beato Mora to score in the first inning. Aleksei Goldhill put a two-run single at the right field in the second, making the contest 3-0 in favor of Jefferson
- The Purple Knights closed the gap as they hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the second to trail 3-2
- Beato Mora made sure to keep the Rams ahead as he nailed a three-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth to make it 6-2
- The sixth saw two runners score as Justin Egner hit a single to center field while Thomas Matuszewski had a sacrifice flyout to center field. The seventh had four runs for Jefferson with Beato Mora having his own sacrifice flyout, Julio Frometa Gomez advancing to homeplate on a balk, and Tripp Capers bringing two Rams to homeplate on a single down the left line
- Jefferson took down the next three Bridgeport batters to get the win in seven innings
- Saiben Rivera took the victory as he pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out six batters at the plate

GAME TWO: W, 16-3
- Birgdeport scored in the first inning on an unearned run to be up 1-0. Jefferson came back in the third with a shortstop error that had one run scored while a catcher's error allowed two more Rams to make homeplate and earn a 3-1 lead
- The Purple Knights got back in the game on a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third to even it out 3-3
- Jefferson went to take control for the rest of the game as Holub and Kyle Kozlowski both had a two-run double in the fifth inning while Frometa Gomez earned a one-run double with Goldhill hitting a single RBI to first base as the game turned into a 9-3 lead for the Rams
- The sixth inning went in similar fashion as Capers and Matuszewski went back-to-back in solo home runs with Frometa Gomez having a one-run single to the left field. A fielder's choice got another run to turn the game in a 13-3 contest
- The seventh had Mason Coyne hit a home run, Colin Wilson knock an RBI single, and Jordan Tiburcio hit the ball right down the middle to the pitcher to complete the game in a 16-3 victory
- Patrick Karbach pitched all seven innings, allowing three hits and three runs, only one being earned, while retiring seven Purple Knight batters
