Baseball Splits Home Match Against Caldwell


PHILADELPHIA – Thomas Jefferson University baseball (13-14, 12-8) took on Caldwell University (8-19, 7-13) where the teams split their doubleheader. 

WHAT HAPPENED 
GAME ONE: W, 3-1 

  • Jefferson got out to an early lead as Alekesi Goldhill hit a two-run homerun in the second inning to get the Rams up 2-0 

  • Both teams defense went to step up the next few innings as only two runs were scored the rest of the way 

  • The Cougars cut the lead to 2-1 with a one-run single to the right side in the seventh inning. Justin Egner hit a homerun in the eighth to help Jefferson earn the 3-1 win 

  • Patrick Karbach pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and a run while striking out 13 batters at the plate. Will Hoffman finished the last two innings, earning the save on the day

  • Second game went in favor of the Cougars early on as they put up four runs in four innings 

  • Being down 4-0, Jefferson went to hit three straight solo homeruns by Julio Frometa Gomez, Goldhill, and Ryan Mallen to cut Caldwell's lead by one run 

  • The Cougars put up another run in the sixth, but Andrew Holub knocked out the fourth homerun of the game for the Rams, making it 5-4 

  • Caldwell tacked on two more in the top of the seventh and held a 7-4 lead. Egner's sacrifice flyout put a run in, but Jefferson ultimately fell 7-5
