Joe Martin retired as head men's golf coach after 14 seasons at the helm from 2008-22.
The 2013-14 season went down as one of the best seasons in program history, highlighted by Joseph Parker becoming the first Rams' men’s golfer to qualify for the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Regional Men's Golf Championship. The Rams came in sixth place at the CACC Championship, tying their best finish in the event. Danny Carpenter received the first-ever CACC Top XV Award for having the highest cumulative grade-point average at the conference championship. The Rams earned a victory at the Immaculata Invitational and won a pair of tri-matches.
At the 2013 CACC Championship, Parker turned in the best finish for a Ram golfer in the event as he came in a tie for ninth place. The Rams had a sixth-place finish in the 2012 conference championship. In Martin’s first two years, the Rams finished eighth in the CACC Championship.
Nick Franchi received the 2018, 2019, and 2020 CACC Top XVI Awards for having the highest cumulative grade-point average at the conference championship. He was just the third student-athlete in conference history to win the award three years in a row.
In the classroom, 12 Rams were named to the CACC All-Academic Team for having a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or better. Nicholas Nguyen, Danny Carpenter, and Nick Franchi were three-time honorees, while Ed DiRugeris and Tom Gobrecht earned a place on the team twice.
Prior to taking the head coaching position with the Rams, Martin was the varsity head coach at Nazareth Academy High School. While at Nazareth, he started the girl’s golf team.
Along with his experience at Nazareth Academy, Martin has held positions at golf institutions such as Dick's Sporting Goods and Somerton Springs Golf Shop. In the positions he held with these organizations he assisted golfers as a club technician, club fitter and as a teacher of the game. It is this experience that has given him a vast knowledge of the game, in the areas of the equipment, rules and the mental aspects that assists both players and teams in accomplishing their goals.
A 1980 graduate of St. Joseph's University, Martin resides in the Philadelphia area.
