Bria Young joined the Thomas Jefferson University women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in July 2024. She is a 2016 graduate of the University and a former member of the Rams’ women’s basketball team.
A graduate of Prep Charter High School in Philadelphia, from 2013 to 2016, Young played in 85 games for Jefferson, scoring 1,067 career points. She was named to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Third Team as a junior and earned First Team and CACC Player of the Year honors as well as defensive player of the year, as a senior. During her final season, she led the conference in steals and ranked fourth in assists. That season, Jefferson won the CACC Championship and earned an NCAA Division II Regional appearance.
After graduating from Jefferson with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Young joined the Harlem Globetrotters as the 14th female player in team history. She performed under the nickname “Swish” during her time with the team.
Young served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Saint Francis University (PA) during the 2018–2019 season, where the team advanced to the Northeast Conference Championship game. From 2022 to 2024, she was the head girls’ basketball coach at New Foundations Charter High School in Philadelphia, leading the team to two league championships. In her first season back at Jefferson (2024–2025), the Rams advanced to the CACC Championship game with a 24-8 record and earned a bid to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament for the 7th straight season.
She also holds a Master’s degree in Sports Psychology and currently resides in Philadelphia.
