Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
women's soccer team (2-1-1, 1-0 CACC) ended a home match against
the #19 nationally-ranked University of Bridgeport Purple Knights
(1-0-2, 0-0 ECC) in a 3-3 tie on Friday afternoon.
BU scored three consecutive goals in the first half, as Katie
Stanley knocked in the game's first half at 4:21, then Marie
Pettersson notched the next two (13:45, 27:37).
PhilaU junior Sara Redka (Williamsport, PA/
Williamsport) scored on a direct kick with just 20 seconds left in
the half to make it 3-1 going into the break.
The Lady Rams came out charging in the second half as sophomore
Gabrielle Haden (Freehold, NJ/ Colts Neck) scored
two goals within three minutes to tie it 3-3.
The game went into the first and second overtime periods with
the score tied at 3-3, the eventual final score.
PhilaU freshman goalie Kelli Kowalewski
(Shamong, NJ/ Seneca) had 12 saves, while sophomore PhilaU keeper
Rebecca Della Peruta (Haddon Heights, NJ/ Haddon
Heights) got the start and had two stops for the Lady Rams.
BU goalie Emelie Karstrom made 11 saves for the Purple Knights.
The Lady Rams return to action on Thursday (9/2) at C.W. Post
for a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m.
