Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
women's soccer team (9-4-3, 9-2 CACC) got their second
double-overtime win this season in a thrilling 3-2 victory over
Dominican College (8-6, 5-5 CACC) on Senior Day on Saturday
afternoon at Ravenhill Field.
Seniors Natalie Vespe and Sara
Redka were honored in a pre-game ceremony.
DC got on the board first with a score by Olivia Antonopoulos at
20:48. The Lady Rams tied it up with a 20-yarder from
sophomore midfielder Melissa Copeland with less
than two minutes in the first stanza to tie it at 1-1 at
halftime.
In the second half, PhilaU freshman defender Nicole Van
Bourgondien chipped in a cross from Copeland to go up 2-1,
but the Chargers played the role of spoiler, knocking in the
equalizer with 2:26 left to send the match into OT on a Mackenzie
Riley goal.
After playing through a scoreless first OT, PhilaU freshman
forward Janine Cascio scored the golden-goal to
win it for the Rams just three minutes into the second extra period
on a cross from Van Bourgondien.
PhilaU sophomore keeper Kelli Kowalewski had
four saves while DC's Kari Spicer made eight stops for her
squad.
The Rams continue action on Tuesday (10/26) at West Chester
University at 6:30 p.m. under the lights.
