Box Score

WILMINGTON, Del. – After scoring just one goal in its first five games of the 2013 season, the Philadelphia University women's soccer team's offense exploded to give the team an 8-0 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Goldey-Beacom Tuesday afternoon on Churchman-Sawin Field.

The eight goals for the Rams (1-5-0, 1-3-0 CACC) are the most since they scored 10 times in a 10-0 win over Lincoln (Pa.) on Sept. 15, 2010.

Senior forward Janine Cascio (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led the charge as she recorded a career-best seven points with a hat-trick and one assist.

Sophomore Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) found the back of the net twice. Junior midfielders Michaela Van Antwerp (Andover, Mass./Andover) and Cristina Nasti (Verona, N.J./Montclair Kimberly Academy), and junior midfielder Hannah Palese (Haddon Heights, N.J./Haddon Heights) all scored once.

Cascio opened the scoring at the 17:27 mark as she beat keeper Cindell Aguirre on a breakaway after receiving a through ball from freshman midfielder Morgan Graus (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton). Van Antwerp made it 2-0 when she successfully one-timed a Nasti crossing pass with 30:37 gone by in the first half. Ferro scored the final goal of the half at the 33:16 mark.

In the second half, the Rams scored five times in a span of 17:30. Ferro netted her second goal of the day on a rebound at 64:43. Nasti knocked in the fifth goal on a breakaway at the 72:20 mark. Cascio completed her hat-trick with two goals separated by 90 seconds to make the score 7-0 with 12:18 left. Palese scored the final goal at the 82:13 mark.

Sophomore keeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) made three saves to record her first career shutout. Aguirre stopped five shots for the Lightning (0-6-0, 0-6-0 CACC).

The Rams took a season-high 24 shots, 17 coming in the second half, while holding the Lightning to seven.

Philadelphia returns to Ravenhill Field to host CACC opponent Nyack as a part of Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 5 at noon.
