Philadelphia, PA- The
Philadelphia University volleyball team (2-5) fell 3-2 in a close
match against the Millersville University Marauders (2-6) in
non-conference competition. The set scores were 21-25, 25-11,
25-12, 13-25, 12-15.
The Lady Rams needed some time to get started, falling 25-21 in
the first set. Junior Celena Rendon (San
Antonio, TX/ Tom C. Clark) led the charge in the second set as the
Lady Rams took a 16-6 lead, she finished with 12 kills and 14
digs. Senior Molly Malone (Rochester, NY/
Gates Chili) had the kill to take the set 25-11, and finished with
11 kills and a .409 attack percentage.
In the third set Millersville called a timeout with Phila U.
ahead 13-3 and freshman Rebekah Waybrant
(Gettysburg, PA/ Gettysburg Area) won set point to go up 2-1
(25-12). Waybrant finished the match with seven kills and
seven digs.
The Marauders came back strong to take the final two sets and
eventually the match.
Defensively, setter Lauren Hoover (New
Baltimore, MI/ Anchor Bay) had 35 assists and junior
Natalie Amodei (West Chester, PA/ Bishop Shanahan)
had 20 digs for the Lady Rams.
The Lady Rams will continue their home stand on Thursday,
September 18th vs. Philadelphia Biblical at 7 p.m.
