Philadelphia, PA- The #2 seeded Philadelphia
University volleyball team (31-5, 17-2 CACC) jump-started
postseason play on Tuesday evening with a 3-0 win over #3 seed Holy
Family (14-21, 11-8 CACC) in the Central Atlantic Collegiate
Conference (CACC) Quarterfinals at the Gallagher Athletic
Center.
The PhilaU squad will now travel to the CACC Semifinals, hosted
by Georgian Court University where they will face Caldwell College
on Friday (11/13) at 8 p.m. The CACC Championship will be the
following day, Saturday (11/14) at 1:00 p.m. at GCU.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-22 and 30-28.
The Lady Rams got a lift offensively from senior outside-hitter
Celena Rendon (San Antonio, TX/ Tom C. Clark) who
had a .194 hitting percentage on the night (10 kills, 14 digs and a
block). Fellow senior right-side hitter Nicole
Berkstresser (Bridgewater, NJ/ Raritan) followed with nine
kills and two blocks on the night, while freshman outside-hitter
Danielle Carney (Thousand Oaks, CA/ Thousand Oaks)
dished out seven kills and a block herself.
PhilaU senior middle-hitter Molly Malone
(Rochester, NY/ Gates Chili) tallied five blocks for the Lady
Rams.
HFU was led by Katie Hornback who had 15 kills and seven digs on
the night.
Defensively for PhilaU, senior Natalie Amodei
(West Chester, PA/ Bishop Shanahan) contributed 18 digs and three
service aces, while sophomore setter Adrienne
Stigura (Reading, PA/ Reading Central Catholic) tallied a
team-high 19 sets and eight digs for the Lady Rams.
