Chestnut Hill, PA- The Philadelphia University
Lady Rams (2-0, 1-0 CACC) got their first Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference (CACC) win on Wednesday night in a 66-60
victory over the Chestnut Hill College Griffins (0-2, 0-1 CACC) at
Sorgenti Arena. PhilaU senior guard Taylor
Magnus (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Plymouth-Whitemarsh) led her
squad with 17 points, seven assists and two rebounds.
PhilaU held the advantage for all but a few minutes of the
contest, shooting 43% from the floor and holding CHC to just 32%.
The Griffins put a damper on PhilaU's advantage late in the
first half, as Latoya Laing scored her only two points of the game
with 16 seconds left to tie it up 31-31 going into halftime.
The Lady Rams went on a 6-0 run to start off the second stanza
and never looked back, getting strong performances from senior
center Jess Romano (Horsham, PA/ Hatboro-Horsham)
with 13 points, six rebounds and two blocks while fellow frontcourt
compadre-sophomore Christine Wooding (Northfield,
NJ/ Mainland)- had a night with nine points, 11 boards and three
blocks.
CHC was led by Jess Pruiti who had 17 points and three rebounds
(going 5-10 from three point land).
PhilaU held their largest lead at 10:19 in the second half at
51-37.
The Lady Rams return to action on Tuesday (11/24) on the road at
Shippensburg at 6:00 p.m.
