Rams (9-4, 2-1 CACC) got a second-straight 29-point
performance from senior guard Russell Frederick
(Baltimore, MD/ Calvert Hall) in a 65-60 win over the Pace
University Setters (5-4, 4-2 NE-10) on Tuesday evening. The
win extends PhilaU's unbeaten streak vs. Northeast 10 opponents to
3-0 this season.
The Rams outshot (44%-35%) and outrebounded (41-30) the Setters
to give themselves an edge.
The Setters were led by Ryan Woods with 18 points and five
rebounds.
Poor shooting in the first half by the Setters (25% from floor)
only helped a PhilaU burst as the Rams started out on a 20-7 run by
9:21. A layup by PhilaU sophomore forward J.J.
Gundry (McAdoo, PA/ Hazleton Area) gave the Rams their
biggest lead of the game at 19 (33-14) with under two minute
remaining in the half. Gundry finished with nine points in
the contest.
PhilaU led 33-20 at the break.
In the second half, Pace stepped up their shooting and cut the
Ram lead to 46-37 at 8:07, but a trey by Frederick and a bucket
from PhilaU senior forward Malcolm Ingram
(Philadelphia, PA/ Solebury Prep) got the home team back a 10 point
lead. Ingram finished with a double-double tallying 12
points, 11 rebounds and three steals on the night.
The Setters cut the lead to three with just 15 seconds
remaining, but 3-4 free-throw shooting gave the Rams the 65-60 win
in a squeaker.
PhilaU returns to action on Tuesday (12/29) in the Holy Family
University Tournament where they face Assumption College at 1:00
p.m., followed the next day (12/30) with a 1 p.m. date vs.
Stonehill College.
