Orangeburg, NY- Philadelphia University senior
forward Kate Brennan (Stratford, NJ/ Sterling) and
freshman forward Christine Wooding (Northfield,
NJ/ Mainland) each notched game-highs of 14 points as the Lady Rams
(7-8, 5-2) edged Dominican College (9-7, 6-2 CACC) 59-43 on
Saturday afternoon at the Hennessey Center. Wooding added 10
boards for the day's only double-double.
PhilaU made twice as many shots from field goal range (44%-22%)
and also hit the boards harder (43-36).
DC led in the first half until a 19-19 stalemate was broken on a
lay-up from Wooding, and PhilaU never looked back. PhilaU freshman
forward Taylor Peltzer (Holland, PA/ Archbishop
Wood) sealed a three-point play with 1:31 to go, and the Lady Rams
led by a hair 27-25 at the break. Peltzer chipped in 10
points and five rebounds on the day.
The Lady Rams went on a 15-4 run in the second half to pull
ahead 42-19 at13:11, followed by a two-team offensive dry-spell for
nearly five minutes.
PhilaU sophomore guard Deanna Kelly (Lafayette
Hill, PA/ Archbishop Carroll) hit a three-ball (her only points of
the night) with five seconds left to package the 59-43 road win for
Coach Shirley's squad.
PhilaU returns to action at home on Tuesday (1/26) in a 6 p.m.
contest vs. the University of the Sciences in the Gallagher
Athletic Center.
