Philadelphia, PA- The Philadelphia University
women's soccer (4-4-3, 4-2 CACC) was downed 3-1 by the #6 east
ranked Chestnut Hill College Griffins (9-1-2, 7-0-1 CACC) on
Thursday afternoon at Ravenhill Field. PhilaU freshman
forward Janine
Cascio scored the Ram's only goal.
PhilaU's Cascio scored out of a cluster of players in front of
the net just 15 minutes into the first half, but the Griffins
evened it 1-1 near the 30 minute mark on a score by Amanda
Botbyl.
In the second half, CHC took a 2-1 edge six minutes in on
another goal by Botbyl-this time on a corner kick play. In
the 66th minute, the Griffs struck again off another
corner on a goal from Lauren Riff to make the final 3-1.
PhilaU sophomore keeper Kelli
Kowalewski made seven stops in net, while CHC's
Jessica Veazey also had seven saves.
The PhilaU women will play their next three matches on the road,
beginning with a trip to Concordia College this Saturday (10/9) at
12:00 p.m.
