Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Forward Janine Cascio's first two goals of the 2012 season were the difference for the Philadelphia University women's soccer team as it defeated visiting Dominican (N.Y.), 2-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
With the victory, the Lady Rams improve to 10-4-0 overall and 10-1-0 against CACC competition. Dominican is now 4-6-1 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play.
Cascio was opportunistic for her first goal of the season in the 25th minute as she knocked home a rebound left by Charger keeper Victoria Iozzi, who had to make a diving save on a shot taken by midfielder Melissa Copeland.
She struck again in the 86th minute from the right corner of the penalty area after receiving a pass from midfielder Jessica Stec. Cascio buried her shot into the lower left corner of the goal.
For the second straight match, Philadelphia keeper Kelli Kowalewski earned the shutout win without having to make a save. Iozzi made four saves for the Chargers, who were outshot by the Lady Rams 22-6.
Philadelphia returns to non-conference play with a road match against Molloy Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
