Lady Rams cruise to 3-0 win in road test at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team earned a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win over host Goldey-Beacom in the Jones Center Wednesday night.

The Lady Rams, who improve to 9-5 overall and 5-2 in the CACC, won the match by set scores of 25-16, 25-16, and 25-18. The Lightning are now 4-11 overall and 0-7 against the conference.

Middle hitter Chelsea Hughes paced the Philadelphia offensive attack with eight kills and a hitting percentage of .500 (eight kills-zero errors-16 attempts). Outside hitters Brittany Olson and Allison Manley added seven kills a piece.

Setters Heather Martin and Allyson Schillinger tallied 17 assists and 13 assists, respectively. Libero Morgan McCarthy was the defensive leader with a match-high 17 digs.

Kadi McCoy led the Lightning with a match-best 10 kills. Jamika Townsend had 14 assists and 10 digs. Monica Dempsey had a double-double consisting of 11 assists and 10 digs. Mackenzie Wilson recorded 14 digs.

The Lady Rams hit .323 (13-3-31) in the first set and held the Lightning to a .029 percentage (8-7-34). On the offensive end, Hughes and outside hitter Danielle Carney had three kills each.

Philadelphia rallied from an early 7-4 deficit to come back at win set two. With the set tied at nine, outside Ellie Edgar recorded a kill to start a 7-0 run which allowed the Lady Rams to take control. Edgar had three of her five kills in the set.

The Lady Rams stormed out of the gate with an 8-0 run to open set three. Martin had two service aces and the Lightning committed three errors during the run. Despite the opening outburst, the Lightning closed to the gap to 19-17. Philadelphia slammed the door with a 6-1 spurt to end the match.

Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center to take on Georgian Court in a CACC match on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.
