Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team picked up its second straight win as it defeating visiting Holy Family, 3-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.
The Lady Rams (4-1, 2-0 CACC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead by taking the first two sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-19. After Holy Family (1-9, 0-2 CACC) won the third set 25-14, Philadelphia closed out the match with a 25-18 win in set four.
Outside hitter Brittany Olson led Philadelphia with 10 kills, five of them coming in the final set. She also finished with nine digs. Setter Heather Martin finished the night with a double-double consisting of 21 assists and 12 digs. Outside hitter Terra Ecker recorded seven of her match-total nine kills in the first two sets to help the Lady Rams get off to their fast start.
Holy Family's Sarah Ambach had a match-high 14 kills, while Chelsea Keegan led the way with 37 assists. Rachel Johson and Charlotte Sabatano recorded 15 digs and 14 digs, respectively.
In the first set, the Lady Rams trailed 10-4 before going on 8-2 run, which included four Tiger errors, to tie the set at 12. Then, middle hitter Jordan Milligan rattled off three consecutive aces to give Philadelphia a 15-12 advantage. A kill by middle hitter Ellie Edgar, one of her four in the match, gave the Lady Rams a set-high six-point lead at 22-16.
Philadelphia took control of a back-and-forth second set with a 10-2 spurt, including three service aces—two from setter Allyson Schillinger and one from outside hitter Allison Manley—,to move ahead 18-10 and take the set.
Holy Family hit .359 (16 kills-two errors-39 attacks) to take the third set.
The Lady Rams shook off five straight attack errors to put together another 10-2 run that broke up a tight set and gave them a 23-15 lead.
Philadelphia travels to West Chester to take on the host Golden Rams on Friday, Sept. 14 in the first day of the West Chester University Ram Fest at 5 p.m.
