Lady Rams fall in four to West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 to West Chester on the first day of the West Chester University Ram Fest in Hollinger Field House on Friday night.

Philadelphia is now 4-2 overall, while West Chester improves 7-4.

Lady Rams' outside hitter Danielle Carney led the way with 17 kills and 15 digs, both match-highs. Outside hitter Brittany Olson also posted a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Setter Heather Martin has 16 assists and nine digs, while fellow setter Allyson Schillinger recorded 15 assists and six digs.

Three players had double-figure kill totals, led by Julia O'Brien's 12. Lexi Kegerise and Cara Reese both has 11 kills. Kegerise also contributed 12 digs. Mary Faust added 23 assists and 11 digs. Dana Markol was the defensive leader with 14 digs.

Philadelphia hit very well in the first set, posting an attack percentage of .310 (18 kills-five errors-42 attempts), on its way to a 25-18 win. A Carney kill sparks a 5-0 run to give the Lady Rams a 14-8 lead.

With the score tied at eight, West Chester went on an 8-2 spurt, including three service aces, to take control of the second set. The Golden Rams went on to take the set 25-18.

In the third, the Golden Rams recorded a hitting percentage of .310 (13-4-29) to take a very tight set, 25-23. The set featured six ties and two lead changes.

West Chester was able to close out the match after taking six of final nine points with the fourth set tied at 19 to win it, 25-22.

Philadelphia takes on Ohio Valley at 10 a.m. and Daemen at noon on the second day of the Ram Fest.
