PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's soccer team has won back-to-back matches for the first time this season after shutting out visiting Concordia (N.Y.), 4-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match Saturday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.
Prior to the start of the match, the team honored seniors Janine Cascio (Kings Park, N.J./Kings Park), Kristen Ferguson (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield), Nicole Van Bourgondien (Southold, N.Y./Southold), and Libby Nichols (Ellicott City, Md./McDonough).
Cascio had a hand in a pair of goals to help the Rams (4-7-1, 3-4-1 CACC) get out to a 2-0 lead.
On Philadelphia's first goal, Cascio played a through ball ahead to freshman forward Shannon Reardigan (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro), who then chipped the ball over Jennifer Forlini for the ninth-minute goal. In the 16th minute, Cascio got her head on a corner kick taken by junior midfielder Cristina Nasti (Verona, N.J./Montclair Kimberley Academy) to double the Ram lead.
Junior defender Danielle Warfel (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) scored her first collegiate goal in the 57th minute to increase the lead to 3-0. Warfel was unmarked on the right post and tapped-in a corner kick from sophomore forward Patrice Maro (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Twp.).
Sophomore Angela Ferro (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) scored the final goal in the 60th minute with a blast from the left side of the penalty area that beat Forlini to the near side.
Cascio and Ferro are tied for the team lead in goals with four.
Sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) was not called upon to make a save in the shutout. Forlini finished with 11 saves.
Philadelphia outshot Concordia, 26-1.
