Women's volleyball reaches CACC Tournament final with 3-1 win over Caldwell

LAKEWOOD, N.J. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team will make its first appearance in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament championship match since 2009 after defeating Caldwell in a semifinal round match 3-1 (25-17, 25-12, 18-15, 25-19) Friday afternoon in the GCU Wellness Center.

Philadelphia improves to 20-8 overall and extends its winning streak to 10. The Rams have won 10 matches in a row for the first time since the 2009 team accomplished the feat. It is the seventh time under head coach Mark Magarity that the Rams have reached the 20-win plateau.

In the final, Philadelphia will square off with host Georgian Court—a 3-0 winner over Wilmington (Del.) in the other semifinal—on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. The winner of the match receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Rams and Lions have met twice this season with the home team winning each time. Georgian Court won the first meeting 3-1 on Oct. 4 in Lakewood. One month later, Philadelphia defeated Georgian Court 3-1 in the Gallagher Center.

This is the fourth time that Philadelphia is in the conference final (2009, 2008, 2006). The Rams have faced the Lions each time and are 0-3 against Georgian Court in the CACC Tournament's championship match. Philadelphia is also 4-7 against Georgian Court in Lakewood.

Senior outside hitter Brittany Olson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) recorded a match-high 13 kills and 12 digs in Friday afternoon's win. Junior middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) posted 10 kills. Sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) contributed nine kills, five blocks assists, and one solo block.

Senior setter Heather Martin (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) tallied 17 assists, while sophomore setter Allyson Schillinger (Spring Hill, Fla./Sprinstead) had 16 assists and three service aces.

Sophomore outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles E.) had a match-best 19 digs.

Caldwell (19-12) got eight kills from Taylor Kovach. Rachel Carpenter had a match-best 27 assists, and Jaclyn Del Cid added 18 digs.
