Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team increased its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) winning streak to 10 with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-11) Senior Day victory over visiting Caldwell Saturday afternoon in the Gallagher Center.
Prior to the match, the Rams (15-8, 14-2 CACC) honored their four seniors: setter Heather Martin (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley), outside hitter Brittany Olson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore), middle hitter Jordan Milligan (Evansville, Ind./Central), and libero Morgan McCarthy (Beaver, Pa./South Side).
Olson went on to record a team-high nine kills and six digs in the win. Sophomore middle hitter Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) contributed eight kills, while junior outside hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) had seven kills.
Martin tallied 17 assists. Sophomore outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles E.) had a match-high 13 digs.
A pair of Martin service aces capped a quick 4-0 spurt to give Philadelphia a 12-9 set one lead. Caldwell answered with five of the next six points to jump ahead by two (15-13). Behind three straight service aces from freshman defensive specialist Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic), Philadelphia rattled off six consecutive points to take a 19-15 lead and control of the set.
Philadelphia never trailed in winning the second set. A Cougar attack error put the Rams ahead by four points (9-5). Caldwell was able to close the gap to one on two separate occasions, but Philadelphia never relinquished its advantage. The Rams hit .353 during the second set.
Philadelphia dominated the final set as it stormed out to a 15-4 lead. With their lead cut to 18-9, the Rams slammed the door shut, scoring seven of the final nine points. The Rams defense forced the Cougars to hit -.030 in set three.
Taylor Zaeske recorded a match-high 10 kills for Caldwell. Rachel Carpenter added 30 assists and 10 digs.
Philadelphia hosts Georgian Court in the CACC contest on Monday, Nov. 4 at 6 p.m.
