Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore outside hitter Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) recorded a match-high 13 kills to help the Philadelphia University women's volleyball team sweep Cairn, 3-0, for its first win of 2013 on Tuesday night in the Gallagher Center.
Philadelphia (1-2) took the match with set scores of 25-12, 25-14, and 25-17.
Manley—the only player in the match to record double-digit kills—finished the match with a .400 hitting percentage and added nine digs.
Junior middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) added seven kills without an error on 11 attempts to finish with a percentage of .636. Senior outside hitter Brittany Olson (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) contributed seven kills and eight digs.
After the match, Manley, Olson, and Ecker are all tied for the team lead in kills with 29.
Sophomore setter Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) and senior setter Heather Martin (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) directed the Philadelphia offense with 20 and 13 assists, respectively. Senior libero Morgan McCarthy was the defensive leader with a match-high 10 digs.
Cairn (3-2) received eight kills from Rachel Johnson. Erin Greenwood had a match-high 21 assists. Brigid Shehan and Nicole Spicer recorded nine digs.
In the first set, the Rams overcame an early 5-3 deficit with a 17-4 run to take a commanding 20-9 lead. Philadelphia hit .519 in the set, while holding Cairn to .000. Four Rams had three kills each.
The Rams jumped all over the Highlanders with six points to open set two and never looked back. Manley posted four kills and two service aces in the set. Senior middle hitter Jordan Milligan (Evansville, Ind./Central) served up a pair of aces.
Philadelphia racked up 15 kills during the final set, led by Ecker's and Manley's four kills each.
Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center to take on CACC rival Holy Family on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m.
