Women's soccer ends season with 2-0 loss to Bridgeport in NCAA Tournament first round

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -- The Philadelphia University women's soccer had its 2014 season come to a close with a 2-0 loss at the hands of the University of Bridgeport in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon on the campus of Mercy College.

After a scoreless first half, Bridgeport (14-4-2)--who will  take on host Mercy in the second round on Sunday--got on the scoreboard just 55 seconds into the second half on a Amanda Moura goal off of a corner kick taken by Tabe Rauschenberger.

Danielle Puddefoot doubled the Purple Knight advantage at 49:01 with a shot from 30 yards out that found the upper left corner of the net.

Philadelphia (14-7-1)--who was in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in the program's 24-year history--took four shots at the Bridgeport net over the final 40:59, two on goal. However, Kaitlin Occhipinti stopped both shots.

The Rams' Courtney Shaw (Langhorne, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) tied a season high with nine saves, seven coming in the opening half to keep the match scoreless. Occhipinti finished the match with three stops for Bridgeport.

Bridgeport outshot Philadelphia 24-5.
