First-half goals propel women's soccer to 2-0 win at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. – Junior midfielder Carla Chmielewski (Glassboro, N.J./Paul VI) and freshman midfielder Alex Reyes (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) scored in the opening half of the Philadelphia University women's soccer team's 2-0 win over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Goldey-Beacom Thursday afternoon on Nancy Churchman-Sawin Field.

Philadelphia remains unbeaten as it improves to 3-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the CACC. Goldey-Beacom is now 1-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 against the conference.

Chmielewski scored the opening goal of the match, her second of the season, in the 17th minute on a breakaway.

In the 38th minute, Reyes recorded her first collegiate goal with a shot from 12 yards out. Freshman forward Jaid Mark (Yardley, Pa./Pottsgrove) picked up an assist on the insurance tally.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Shaw earned her third her third shutout of 2014 by stopping seven Lightning chances.

Goldey-Beacom's Marie Goodman came up with two saves.

The Lightning owned a 14-12 shot edge.

Philadelphia heads to Queens (N.Y.) for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m.
