Box Score 2 NYACK, N.Y. – The Philadelphia University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches in a tri-match at Nyack on Saturday afternoon in Bowman Gym. The Rams defeated the Warriors in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match 3-1 in the opener and lost to Southern New Hampshire in the second match 3-2.
In the first match of the afternoon, Philadelphia (4-8, 2-1 CACC) won the first set 25-23 and had Nyack come back for a 25-16 second-set win. The Rams got back on track and closed out the match with set victories of 25-21 and 25-19.
Middle hitter Chelsea Hughes (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) was the Rams' offensive leader with 14 kills and hit .393 in the win. Outside hitters Allison Manley (Saint Charles, Ill./Saint Charles East) and Erin Lyman (Algonquin, Ill./Huntley) both recorded 12 kills each.
Setter Nina Morvin (Willow Grove, Pa./St. Basil Academy) tallied a match-best 33 assists and three service aces. Libero Michele Chai (Sinking Spring, Pa./Berks Catholic) contributed 19 digs and four service aces, both match highs.
In the second match, Southern New Hampshire outlasted Philadelphia for a 30-28 opening set win. Philadelphia bounced back to even the match with a 25-23 triumph in the second set. Sets three and four were decided by a 26-24 score with the third set going to the Penmen and the Rams winning the fourth. Southern New Hampshire won the match after claiming the final set 15-8.
Middle hitter Terra Ecker (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill) recorded a match-high 17 kills in the loss for Philadelphia. Hughes had 14 kills and seven block assists, while Lyman added 13 kills and 12 digs for her second double-double this year.
Morvin had 45 assists, while Chai posted 25 digs.
After two weeks of road matches, Philadelphia returns to the Gallagher Center to face Wilmington (Del.) in a CACC match on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m.
